Those within the common granted limits of the Atlantic and Pacific and the main line of the Southern Pacific. "2. Those within the granted limits of the main line of the Southern Pacific and the indemnity limits of the Atlantic and Pacific. "3. Those within the granted limits of the Atlantic and Pacific and the indemnity limits of the main and branch lines of the Southern Pacific. "4. Those within the common indemnity limits of both roads, and also those within the common indemnity limits of the Atlantic and Pacific and the branch line of the Southern Pacific. "5. Those within the common granted limits of the Atlantic and Pacific and the Southern Pacific branch line. "6. Those within the indemnity limits of the Atlantic and Pacific and the granted limits of the branch line of the Southern Pacific. "In submitting to the Secretary of the Interior certain recommendations respecting the restoration of the forfeited lands, this office suggested that the restoration of the land? within the intersecting limits be deferred for the present, and that the Southern Pacific Railroad Company be allowed an opportunity to show cause why such lands should not be restored. "By letter dated the 10th inst., the Hon. Secretary approved this recommendation as being the wisest course in view of the complications, but directed that prompt action in the matter be taken, so that the forfeited lands could be opened to the public at the earliest possible day. "You will, therefore, be allowed a reasonable period within which to show cause, if any exists, why the lands embraced in said classes, or any of them, should not be restored. "It is requested that this matter receive your early attention, as it is desirable that the questions involved be determined at the earliest day possible.
